My first week in Cebu kicked off in a way I didn’t quite expect—but maybe exactly how it was supposed to. I spent the entire weekend out, exploring the nightlife, meeting new people, and fully stepping into the energy of the Philippines.
Now, to be honest, I’m not usually a party person. I tend to keep things more low-key. But this weekend was different. I stepped out of my comfort zone—and a big reason for that was being with my longtime friend, Armani… who, for the record, is a terrible influence. Sometimes you need that person who pushes you to loosen up a bit, and this weekend, I went along for the ride.
From the moment I arrived, one thing stood out immediately: the hospitality. It’s not just something people say about the Philippines—it’s real. Everywhere I went, I was welcomed with genuine warmth. Whether it was at a bar, a restaurant, or just walking around, people were approachable, friendly, and open. It made settling in feel effortless.
What made the experience even better was the ease of communication. I had wondered before arriving if there would be a language barrier, but that hasn’t been the case at all. English is widely spoken here, and that takes away a lot of the stress that can come with traveling somewhere new. It allowed me to focus less on figuring things out and more on actually enjoying where I am.
The weekend itself felt like a blur in the best way possible—music, conversations, laughter, and just being present in a completely different part of the world. There’s something about being in a new environment that makes everything feel a little more alive. You notice more. You appreciate more. And you connect with people in ways you might not back home.
But beyond the partying, what really stuck with me was how comfortable I felt so quickly. Cebu already feels like a place where I can settle in, not just visit. And for someone who’s trying to build a life around travel, that feeling matters.
This is just the beginning, and if my first weekend is any indication, Cebu has a lot more to offer. I’m looking forward to slowing things down a bit, exploring beyond the nightlife, and really getting to know the culture, the food, and the everyday life here.
For now, though, I’m just grateful—to be here, to experience this, and to see where this journey takes me next.
