One Month Living Abroad: Embracing the Rhythm of Colombia

It’s been my first full month living in another country, and so far, the experience has been nothing short of interesting—and fun. The culture of Colombia is everywhere. You can’t avoid it even if you tried—the music, the food, the people—it’s all woven into everyday life. It’s very different from the United States, or at least from where I’m from, but in the best possible way.

I’ve genuinely enjoyed myself here. I’ve even found myself downloading Spanish music because it’s just so catchy. And as I’m still learning the language, it’s actually been helping me pick up new words without even realizing it.

The biggest surprise, though, has been me learning how to dance bachata. I never thought my introverted self would be out here moving to Latin beats, but here I am, stepping (and sometimes stumbling) my way through the rhythm. It’s wild how travel can pull you out of your comfort zone in the most unexpected ways.

Every day here reminds me that growth doesn’t always come from big, planned changes—it’s often found in the small moments, like sharing a laugh with locals, trying new food, or dancing when you’d usually sit on the sidelines.
