I’ve noticed a mind-blowing number of Americans living here. Now, I’m still kind of new to this whole traveling thing, so maybe it’s not that crazy—but it’s still wild to me that so many people have actually moved here and have been living abroad for years.
So, I did the obvious thing: I started talking to some of them to get their perspective. I wanted to know why they moved overseas and what they love about it. Almost everyone I talked to said the same things — it’s more peaceful outside the U.S., life is less expensive, and there’s no constant need to compete with each other. They’re just living life and actually enjoying it.
I’ve met several people who’ve even started their own businesses here — coffee shops, juice bars, and one guy who owns a sports bar called The Skybox. And let me tell you, he’s making money. His place shows all the major sports games and pay-per-view events, and it’s where all the expats go to relax, hang out, and have a good time.
It’s inspiring to see so many people, like me, prioritizing peace over pressure. They’re choosing to live life on their own terms instead of following the status quo and staying behind. Now, I understand that not everyone has the opportunity to make that move, but for those who can — they’re taking full advantage of it.
I’ve heard people say things like, “You’re just running away from something,” or “Why leave the U.S. if everything’s fine there?” I’ve literally heard those exact words before. But I promise you, that’s not the case. Most people who decide to live abroad or travel long-term aren’t running from anything — they’re running toward a better quality of life.
Let’s be honest, everyone’s had that thought at least once: What if I just got away for a while and did something different with my life? Well, the people I’ve met out here are actually doing it — and I love that.
